 President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to travel to South Africa from France to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations. The trip, initially scheduled for November 28, has been postponed to December 3, 2024 ¹. During his visit, President Tinubu will co-chair the 11th Session of the Bi-National Commission (BNC) with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Cape Town 


The BNC aims to enhance the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa, focusing on key areas such as:


Bilateral Cooperation: Strengthening diplomatic relations and exploring new areas of cooperation ².

Regional and Global Issues: Discussions on mutual interests, regional, and international matters ².

-Economic Ties: Reviewing progress made since the 10th session of the BNC in 2021 and formalizing collaboration through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements [2).


This visit marks 30 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and South Africa, established in February 1994 ¹. The two nations have a significant trade relationship, with Nigeria accounting for approximately 64% of South Africa's total trade with the West African Region ¹. A business roundtable between South Africa and Nigeria will follow the BNC on December 3, 2024 ¹
