 The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Osuoha Christian Iheanacho, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for ingesting 90 wraps of cocaine ¹ ². Weighing 2.019 kilograms, the cocaine was expelled by the suspect in seven excretions while under observation ¹ ².


The arrest occurred on November 20, 2024, during the inbound screening of passengers arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight ¹ ². According to the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the suspect had been under surveillance for months ¹.


Investigations revealed that Iheanacho, who runs a phone and accessories business in Lagos and Gabon, traveled from Gabon to Douala, Cameroon, then flew to Addis Ababa, where he ingested the cocaine pellets ¹ ². He claimed to have resorted to drug trafficking to boost his declining business ¹.


This arrest is part of the NDLEA's ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in Nigeria. In another operation, the agency arrested a 42-year-old man believed to be the leader of a cocaine distribution cartel, along with five associates, and recovered 2.412kg of cocaine ¹.
