The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has confirmed the surrender of Bochu Abacha, a prominent Boko Haram operative, to troops stationed in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State.
Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osaba, the Chief Military Information Officer for the MNJTF in Ndjamena, announced this development in a statement issued from Maiduguri on Saturday.
Abacha, who has been involved in various terrorist activities, acknowledged his participation in multiple operations along the Mongunu-Baga corridor. He cited the MNJTF's robust military actions and a diminishing commitment to the group's agenda as reasons for his decision to surrender.
Upon surrendering, Abacha relinquished an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a mobile phone, an Airtel SIM card, and 32,500 Naira in cash. He is currently assisting authorities by providing critical intelligence.
In a related operation, MNJTF troops, in collaboration with intelligence agents, ambushed Boko Haram members transporting significant logistical supplies in three vehicles during the night. The ensuing clash resulted in one terrorist being killed, while others fled, leaving their supplies behind. Recovered items included three vehicles filled with various food products, miscellaneous goods, and 2,000 Naira in cash.
