Prominent singer Bankole Wellington, better known as Banky W, is the latest Nigerian celebrity to move abroad with his family.
In recent years, several notable figures in the entertainment industry, including actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, filmmakers Emem Isong-Mosidi and Jeta Amata, actor Joseph Benjamin, and singer Tekno, have left Nigeria, often citing the deteriorating economic conditions, rising insecurity, and persistent kidnappings as key reasons for their departures.
Many entertainers have expressed a desire for a better quality of life outside the country, and Banky W is no exception. In an Instagram post, he revealed that his move to the United States was primarily to pursue a Master’s degree at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
His relocation has sparked discussions about the ongoing trend of mass emigration among Nigerians, including many celebrities. Banky W's decision highlights the challenging circumstances that many Nigerian youths are currently facing.
