In a tragic incident, a lion has killed Babaji Daule, a handler at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Daule, 35, who hailed from Bauchi State, reportedly neglected to properly secure the lion’s enclosure before attempting to feed the animal, leading to the deadly attack. The lion escaped from its enclosure and fatally injured Daule, targeting his neck.
According to Ogun State Police Spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the report was filed by the Chief Security Officer of the presidential library. In her statement, she confirmed that the victim’s body was recovered and taken to Ijaye General Hospital’s mortuary. The lion was eventually shot to free Daule from its grip.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the handler’s death, with concerns raised over the safety protocols at the wildlife park.
